A brief update on the update.  It seems that we’ve had some computer problems lately, and can not update the site as we planned.  So, we’re keeping this one for a while.  The “Where They’re At” page has been updated with the shows down east and elsewhere.

Most Importantly:  We are slated to be slotted in at the Blueberry Festival in St. George's, NL on Junly 31st.  Also, the Foggy Goggle gig in Halifax, NS is shaping up to have a good showing as well.

We will get the new website up eventually – promise!

We're sure to meet lots of great people, and make some great friends on this roadtrip for sure!

This is going to be one of those weird summers. Some of the regular old KeelHaul haunts seem to have dried up, and it is now time for KeelHaul to reinvent itself. Not exactly the thing that we are good at, or looking forward to, but something that may very well take us all in an exciting new direction.

We are very lucky to be able to take the KeelHaul kitchen party back home to the east coast for a couple of showcases in Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia. A couple of the dates have been posted already, and a couple of more are still awaiting confirmation. The end of August also sees the group at the Steveston Maritime Festival, which is going to be awesome! Click on the "Where They're At" link to see the upcoming schedule.

We also have a video project in the works, and a couple of other side projects brewing that may surface before too long.

That's it for now. The crew has to head below deck and get back to business..... speaking of business, this seems like a good time to put this offer out to everyone who may see this page:

If you have any ideas for KeelHaul -- musical or otherwise -- please, please, please pass them along. Good or bad, the crew needs every bit of help they can get. If you fill out the "Comments" section, you can do it anonymously without an email address, or just send a message to keel@keelhaul.ca.

We hope to see everyone soon -- just as soon as we take over the world --

Those that like us, like us a lot!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we've posted some dates for this summer. Although there are details to be confirmed, we thought we'd let everyone know what's being planned for this summer's "Coming Home Tour".

Have a look at the "Where They're At" page, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Hopefully everybody has made it through the "Green Beer Haze" that has become St. Paddy's Day.

Our good friend, Lorne Warr, wrote a song for the people of Bowen Island and was invited to perform it while the Olympic Torch passed through the sleepy little town. All reports that we've heard is that it was well recieved.

KeelHaul has enjoyed some quiet time as of late, and is hoping to pick up some shows before summer. So far, there is at least one confirmed festival, and perhaps another one or two before long. They will also be taking the whole mess to Atlantic Canada for the last week of July, and the first week of August. There's no shows yet, but one never knows what might happen. Check back soon for some updates.

While we're at it... the video project is still alive and well, as well as a plane for a great Fall show... but those details are only still in their infancy... more to stay tuned for.

If there is one thing that the band loves to do most, it's playing live. So if there is a place that you'd like to see this motely crew play, please drop us a line:

Happy 2K10 to all the friends of the KeelHaul Crew!  Wishing everyone the very best on your new adventures, we look forward to seeing you throughout the year.

2009 was ground breaking for KeelHaul.  January and February was spent in the studio toiling away on our first CD, ~a maritime tradition~, which was released on - you guessed it - St. Paddy’s Day at our local tap house, The Rose & Crown.  ~a maritime tradition~ has been met with great success and we thank you for your support.

On July 1st, we christened the new location of our favourite east coast pub, The Atlantic Trap and Gill, and continued with regular weekends there until the end of September.

In the fall, Wayne had an original song released on a compilation folk CD called Goin’ Home.  We were also lucky enough spend a few nights with The Pogues, Flogging Molly and The Dropkick Murphy’s, which gave us the inspiration to carry us through to where we are now.

2010 is going to be an entertaining year for all of those around the crew.  We currently have a video project underway and are working on a TV special!  I know!  But it’s all true.  Of course, we are also looking forward to a festival or two, returning to the Trap and Gill and our other favourite watering holes and a new venture involving our men and women in the service.  Check back often for updates.

Again, warmest thanks for joining us in 2009 and all the best to you and yours in 2K10…we’ll see you on the road!

November 09, 2009

Things have been very quiet lately. It's all by design. We've been working out the details for a winter video project that we are very excited about.

This is the time of year that we Canadians remember. November 11th is a day that is very special, and very important to rememeber. So as we do every year, we'll all be at our Local Legion, at our finest, for our finest. We hope everyone takes a moment to do the same!

.... We hope to see everyone real soon!

September 8, 2009

We thought it would be a good time to do a quick update on our latest "going's on". The crew has finished our "Summer Series", and would like to thank all hands for making it a great summer indeed. Special thanks goes out to the unbelievable fiddle talents of Cary Grigg, who really did bring us up a notch. We really look forward to having him play with us more often.

Also, special thanks to the whole crew at The Atlantic Trap and Gill. They always make us feel at home, and treat us royally. We couldn't do anything without you guys for sure!

The next couple of months Sue and Wayne are going to be checking out some great talent. The Dreadnoughts, Floging Molly, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphy's and no doubt, another Great Big Sea show. We're calling it an AR&D tour,(Artist Research & Development). Perhaps a little inspiration to carry the group into their fall tour.

Who knows, this little break may be just what the Dr. ordered. Some new songs, a fresh sound, and of course, a clean shower!

One last note... there may be one October show. It would be the first weekend of October, but plans have not been finalized yet. Details will be posted in the "Where They're At" section of this site during the last week of September.

So stick around, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!

Hear we are, halfway through summer, and looking head-on at Fall and Winter. As of right now, we haven't made any plans for the upcoming season. If you'd like to see KeelHaul in a place near you, drop us a line and we might be knocking on your door --- or your local pubs door.

We would like to send a shout out to Marc Gunn's Celtic Music Podcast, for giving us a mention on his very popular podcast. His link is on the bottom of the page.

It's probably a good time for us to mention that we have been lucky enough to have an incredible Fiddle player agree to help us out for the immediate future. Cary Grigg is an accomplished Master of the fiddle and can be seen at our upcoming gigs. Welcome aboard with this Motley Crew Cary. There will be more posted in the future on our "Crew" page.

Remember: Those that like us.... well, you know the rest!

The summer is now here. How exciting! The KeelHaul schedule is posted on the "Where They're At" page, and it's not nearly as full as it was last summer, but we're happy with it.

Currently the group is in pre-production for a Fall project that will hopefully find it's way onto YouTube. We can't reveal any details yet, but we're very excited about this one.

Technology has got us all bumfuzzled. CD's on CD Baby, iTunes, Rhapsody and others. Myspace, Facebook pages. People asking for a Twitter page ---- it's all very hard to keep track of for our Space-Cased brains at the best of times... but we're keeping up the best we can. Big bands have many people who work behind the scenes keeping these things up to date, but a little Bar Band like us has a hard enough time remembering where we're at next! Especially Wayne who likes to whore himeself out to various other bands and projects.

Enjoy the nice weather wherever you are, and remember: Those that like us, like us A lot!

The Votes Are In... And We Have A Winner!

The votes are all in, and we want to thank everyone who took the time to vote. It was a close race, pretty well 50 / 50 valid votes.

Congratulations to Gillian, the lucky voter who won a KeelHaul CD. Sue performed a random draw, and drew Gillian's name in front of a couple of witnesses - she's a stickler for details - and now Wayne is no longer sporting his Goatee.

Some of the comments we received:

I vote to lose the goat

it's prickly

keep the goat wayne !

Like the clean-shaven look.

Love it!

I like goats... keep the goat. Makes you look more sophisticated :)

Shave the Goat!

I say take it off ~ you look like a pirate ~ a friendly one though ....

Vote the Goat was a success, and we may have to revisit it in the future. Thanks again to everyone who voted - you guys are awesome!

One lucky voter will recieve a free KeelHaul CD ... and it's totally free! CLICK HERE here to cast your vote. Contest ends Friday, May 22nd!

A special thanks to all hands who made it out to the official KeelHaul CD release at the Rose & Crown on St. Paddy's day! Well done!

There was a printing error, and a mad scramble ensued. In the end we picked up the CD's at 3:00 on the 17th, and hit the stage at 4:00. It was close, but it all worked out -- of course. What a crazy day that was.

We've updated the EPK page with a new Bio, and we also have the CD available in our shoppe.

There are a few new dates added in the Where They're At page, and after our 6 week work-up, (starting today), there will be more dates added for the summer.

~a maritime tradition~ will also be available at CD Baby soon, and everyone's favourite iTunes type music site.

This summer is going to be full of surprises, so you won't want to miss a thing. Be sure to check back often for updates.

We've just finished up our CD, and are waiting for pressing to be completed. We should have everything by St. Paddy's and will be updating the website very soon with some further information.

January 28, 2009

I am very excited to report that KeelHaul has finished tracking our CD!  Only 10 days past our second deadline, and three months beyond the original deadline.

I know that many of you know there's alot more than meets the eye to putting together a CD.  We learned alot!  It was a struggle to work around busy schedules, and studio time, but we did it.  We are still hoping for a mid-March release, and then a little later for the CD Baby folks, i-Tunes etc.

What can I say about the songs?  Well, it's still under wraps.  There will be a couple of songs that face the chopping block, so I don't want to give anything away.  What I will say is that Dave did two amazing "Live off the Floor" tunes on the squeeze box.  What a treat those sessions were.  Anyone who's ever touched the button accordion knows what a heartless beast it can be to tame.

Henrik Ryan, who did much of the recording, and is mixing as we speak managed to really light the fire under our butts and keep us on track.  It would have been impossible without his persistance.

There will be much more to come in the very near future.

Those that like us, like us alot!

January 5, 2009

So here it is.  Happy New Year!  Hopefully everybody had a good holiday season, and has kept their New Years resolutions.  Ha, ha, ha.  I know, it’s January 5th, and I haven’t had any luck either.

Right now, KeelHaul is heading to the studio for the month.  This CD, that was started 5 months ago, has dragged on long enough.  By the end of the month, we WILL have the project finished, and will be on well on our way to preparing for this years St. Paddy’s program at the Rose & Crown.

We are all excited with the way 2009 is shaping up so far.  Hopefully there will be more awesome news on this front in a month or so.

KeelHaul is one of those bands that tries real hard to combine the “fun” of our music with the professionalism required to keep playing at our favourite stops.  It’s a lot of work!  Honestly, the last couple of months have been slow, lacking in motivation, and not very productive.  Now it’s time to work off some of the “Holiday Weight” and pick up where we left off.

It’s exciting for us to have our website, www.keelhaul.ca , up and running now, along with our MySpace, and FaceBook pages.  Please, don’t be shy, stop by one of them and say “hello”--- we’d love to hear from our friends.  We’d love to play in your neighbourhood.  We’d love to help with your charity fundraisers.

We are KeelHaul, and this is what we do – enjoy ’09.

Those that like us, like us a lot!

November 30, 2008

Between outside commitments and life in general, the CD project has been chugging along nicely. Maybe not as fast as one would hope, but the ship is making fast, and the winds ahead a favorable.

There is still lots of work to be completed on the CD, but we've started to record vocals on a couple of tracks, and the results have been surprisingly good! --- I know!!! We're all shocked too!

The Mailing list is now up and running, somewhat functional, and in need of a few names. Pop in and sign up!

There will be more updates real close to Christmas.... until then... remember:

THOSE THAT LIKE US....LIKE US ALOT!

October 20, 2008

The KeelHaul crew is back at it. More studio time has been booked, and all the little pieces are coming together.

We're looking forward to a great summer and taking our East Coast Kitchen Party on the road. The CD release should be early in 2009. Stay tuned for more information, as well as our WebSite updates and fixes.

WELCOME TO THE NEW KEELHAUL WEBSITE!!!

As of September 9th, 2008, we finally got this thing up and going. It's been pretty crazy trying to put everything together, read page after page on how to set up a domain name, blah, blah, blah. The hardest part is over.

Please....please...please. Just feel free to make yourself at home. Have a look around, and don't mind the mess. Over the next few weeks we'll get the bugs worked out, and more pieces up and running. You know, things like search links, the EPK looking good, and some other little gems. The worst part is that on my computer, the pages look great, but it seems that on every other machine, the pictures are in the wrong spots, the text is in the wrong font, and everything is wrong.

Sorry about that! It's being worked on.

Thanks for stopping by our kitchen.... The KEELHAUL crew!

In The Studio

KeelHaul is currently busy in the Studio recording a full length CD.

They are recording at "The Lounge" and working on tracks whenever time permits. Currently they are planning on 10 -12 songs, some with special guests, and even a special bonus track that captures the true Maritime Kitchen Party atmosphere.

The planned release date is late 2008, (probably the end of November), but may be delayed until January. "We want to make sure we have a product that represents what KeelHaul is all about," said Wayne in a recent Press release. "It has to be done right. If someone drops good money on a CD, we want them to get great value and entertainment."
